Empowering Women Through Tradition: The REAP IMPACT Project

In 2022, we embarked on a project called “REAP IMPACT”. This project was built to train and empower Internally displaced women, Rural women and women with disabilities. It is also to encourage sustainability and improve circular economy.

We built a community of women at the Internally Displaced Persons camp, Abuja, where we trained them on handloom weaving on local textile production. Handloom weaving is a traditional skill that can provide a source of income and empowerment for these categories of women. Providing training and resources for these women to learn and practice handloom weaving has helped them gain financial independence and improve their livelihoods.

Additionally, we also provided access to markets for their products and we helped them sell their creations and earn a sustainable income.

Furthermore, empowering internally displaced women through handloom weaving would also preserve traditional art and culture, and provide a sense of community and belonging for the women. It’s also an opportunity to create a positive impact on the society by promoting sustainable and ethical fashion.

Overall, empowering these women through handloom weaving can have a positive impact on the women’s livelihoods, as well as preserve traditional art and culture.

This video shows their first earnings in their empowerment journey. They earned their first money after the sales of their craft. Their joy and happiness are contagious and know no bounds. We are so proud of our achievement. These women made some of the fabrics for our SS23 collections and they are gorgeous
